Pickleball Day Planner
The ten-second checklist for an effortless pickleball day — skill, group, weather, and gear.
1 · Pick your skill window
Take the Skill Match Quiz if you're new. Most open-play sessions are calibrated 2.5–3.0, 3.0–3.5, 3.5–4.0, or 4.0+. Pick a session no more than 0.5 above your level — half a level up is fun, a full level up is frustrating for everyone.
2 · Read the weather
Wind over 12 mph kills outdoor play — switch to indoor. Heat over 90°F: book a 7–9am slot or look for shaded courts. Rain forecast: filter the map to indoor / covered settings.
3 · Match the group size
1 paddle: pick a court with active rotating-doubles open play — you'll be in. 2–4 paddles: any court with reservations or open play. 5+ paddles: book ahead or pick a venue with 6+ courts so you don't bottleneck.
4 · Gear pack
- Paddle (1 per player) — see our gear picks
- Balls — outdoor (harder, smaller holes) or indoor (softer, bigger holes)
- Court shoes (not running shoes — you need lateral support)
- Water (quart per hour in heat)
- Towel + paddle wipe
- Sunscreen + hat for outdoor
- Light jacket for early-morning indoor (gyms run cold)
5 · Lock the court
Use the map to find courts in your radius. Filter by lighting if you're playing past sundown. Check the open-play calendar for a session that matches your skill window. Call ahead for any club or paid facility — court status changes.
